Top Ten Tuesday: Auto-Buy Authors
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly book blogging meme, hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. If you’re also taking part, be sure to add your post to the Linky so other bloggers can read it.
This week’s theme is all about discussing authors whose new releases are an instant-buy for us, regardless of what their newest title is about. I had a lot of these back in my romance-obsessed days — however, the list is a lot smaller now! Anyway, here they are:
Sarah J. Maas
Okay, I know Sarah J. Maas is viewed as being pretty problematic in the book blogging world, and I completely acknowledge all of the issues with her books — however, A Court of Mist and Fury was such a beautiful novel that helped me through a time when I was really struggling, and the Throne of Glass series is a big part of why I’m so close to one of my really good friends now (through a shared love of the series, and eagerly anticipating each new release together), so her books are always going to hold a special place in my heart. Aside from the emotional connection, I really enjoy her writing style (apart from the sex stuff, which is often really cringe-y) and love the characters she creates, so, in picking up a new Sarah J. Maas novel, I know I’m generally in for a really enjoyable reading experience.
Leigh Bardugo
I quite enjoyed the original Grishaverse series (apart from that ending), but my love for Leigh Bardugo was really solidified when I read the Six of Crows duology. I’d never read a series like it, and I couldn’t believe how deeply I loved each and every character in those books. I’m currently quietly obsessed with Ninth House already (even though it doesn’t release for another few months) and, at this point, I feel like Bardugo is only getting better and better with each book that she releases. Or, at least, that’s what I’m hoping — because if Ninth House is as great as it sounds, she’ll be remaining on my auto-buy list for a very long time.
Haruki Murakami
Okay, a confession: although I own all of Murakami’s books, I’m yet to read the majority of the more recent releases. I was absolutely obsessed with his writing for a good few years but, in rediscovering my love for young adult fantasy, I’ve temporarily fallen off the Murakami train. I’m hoping to pick up one of his books again soon, and I’m sure that the love for him will come flooding back — and, even if it isn’t as strong as it was before, he’s always going to be an auto-buy for me, because there’s something really satisfying about owning an author’s entire back catalogue!
Holly Black
I actually only joined in on the Holly Black hype when The Cruel Prince was released, but I’m so glad that I did! I absolutely adore this series, and I think Holly Black is a fantastic writer. I really like stories written about fae, and Holly Black is (rightly) often crowned the Queen of Fae. So, although she’s the most recent addition to my auto-buy list, I can’t yet foresee a time where I’m not going to be excited by one of her new releases.

Yes to Leigh Bardugo!! Omg your collection of Murakami books is so nice! I remember reading Kafka on the Shore and After Dark and they had such surrealist vibes, it was such a unique read.
Lovely list. Also, just followed your blog, it’s beautiful!

Thank you so much! I’m really happy with my blog for the first time ever, so I’m glad you like it!
After Dark was one of the first books I read by him when I was 15, and I’d never read anything like it before. I was hooked!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

This is a great list! Sarah J. Maas and Leigh Bardugo are definitely two auto buy authors! I’ve loved all their books. I need to read more Holly Black though 🙂

I was really pleasantly surprised by Holly Black! I’m yet to pick up any of her older books, but The Folk of the Air series has me hooked!
Thanks for stopping by!

I have to admit I still haven’t read Wicked King coz my sister has my signed copy, BUT I’m super excited to get to it. I loved Cruel Prince 😍

Wicked King was great too! I hope you enjoy it as much as you enjoyed Cruel Prince. I’m so excited that she moved the release date for Queen of Nothing forward. I don’t think I would have lasted to 2020!!

Omg I know, I thought that was pretty amazing when I heard the news about QoN! Is that going to be the last book of the series btw?
Shaunna McLaren
As far as I know, yes! I’m sure it was supposed to just be a trilogy?? But, I mean… if she wanted to write any spin-offs, I wouldn’t say no hahaha

Oh goodie! Then there’s less waiting time between me reading Wicked King and Queen of Nothing 😂 Haha

Have you read Holly Black’s Spiderwick books yet? They’re Middle Grade books, but the fae elements are amazing and the art is lovely. (Those are what introduced me to Holly’s work, and I really loved them when I read them.)
Shaunna McLaren
I haven’t read any of her earlier books, actually — I’m just so hooked by The Folk of the Air series. My best friend in school was obsessed with Tithe though. I’m actually reading my first Middle Grade (as an adult) right now and quite enjoying it, so I’ll definitely look into those when I’m done!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Dance Dance Dance does sound like an interesting read.

It’s great! I always recommend Kafka on the Shore for people to stat with Murakami, though. I think it’s the best book to get a taste for what he’s like as a writer.
Thanks for stopping by!

I’ve read a couple Holly Black books (although I can’t remember which ones now), but that’s it off your list. I always hear great things about Maas, but I still haven’t tried her. I need to get on that.
Happy TTT!

Sarah J. Maas can be a little trashy at times, but her stories and characters make for really great and addictive reads!

I will definitely check out Kafka on the Shore. Your photos of the books are gorgeous.

Oh, thank you so much! I’m really trying to get better at taking photos for my blog, so that means a lot!
